Have you ever wondered if electric eels can really produce electricity?

The answer is yes, they do. An electric eel uses chemicals in its body to manufacture electricity. A large electric eel can produce a charge of up to 650 volts, which is more than five times the shocking power of a household outlet.

Electricity produced by eels, however, would be a very inefficient way to power our lives, so don’t expect to see them included in our power mix anytime soon.
