What Does a Substation Do?

A substation receives high-voltage electricity from transmission lines and reduces the voltage to levels that can be carried over distribution power lines. 

By reducing the electricity’s voltage, it makes it possible to travel on smaller power lines that reach your neighborhood either through overhead power lines or underground power lines.
