Are you preparing a delicious spread for the Big Game on Sunday? No matter which team you are rooting for — Los Angeles or Cincinnati — you will be making a safe bet when you stick to these energy-efficient strategies.

Start by making a few tweaks to the way you are using appliances and devices in your home. Simple adjustments, such as avoiding vampire power (the energy consumed by some appliances when plugged in but not in use) or updating lighting to more energy-efficient options, can help you save big on monthly bills. Protecting your electronics is also very important to consider when showing the game on your big television. Using surge protectors will protect your equipment and your home.

When cooking, choose simple dishes that don’t require much preparation. Using your refrigerator efficiently can also help your appliances perform better while using less electricity. For instance, keeping food spaced apart in your refrigerator can help reduce energy use and avoid early spoilage.

Use these simple tips to keep energy costs down and the energy up while watching the Big Game.
