4 Things To Do If There's an Electrical Fire
The best way to put out an electrical fire is with a fire extinguisher. If you don’t have one, remember these tips.
1. You should never throw water on an electrical fire because water conducts electricity and you could be electrocuted.
2. If you don’t have a fire extinguisher, you can use baking soda to extinguish an electrical fire.
3. If there’s smoke, fire or a strange odor coming from your appliances, wires or electric motors, you should turn off both the appliances and the circuit breaker or fuse box’s main switch.
4. Call 911 immediately and let them know you have an electrical emergency.
This is a great tip not to use water, many people think the same. If a fire accident happens and you don't have a fire extinguisher then you could also use sand to get on that fire. this will also help.

The one electrical fire I had was at the smoldering and smoking stage in the middle of the night. It was a battery charger plug for a cordless drill. I instinctively pulled the plug. Only one prong came out of the outlet, and flames shot out of the outlet. I called 911 and the firefighters were excellent, making sure the house was secure and safe to leave until repairs could be made. I should have turned off power at the circuit breaker instead of pulling the plug, and I now keep fire extinguishers rated for electrical fires in several rooms. Hint: if you have pets of any type, they will probably be the first to notice the odor or smoke and they will let you know. My cats probably saved my life. Even my smoke detectors had not gone off yet.
