For many Californians, electric vehicles are becoming less about hype and more about practicality.
The ability to charge at home, spend less time at the mechanic and drive with quieter, smoother performance is reshaping how people think about their daily commute. It’s no surprise that drivers have purchased more than 2.5 million EVs in the state alone.
But with the federal tax credits for going electric expiring in September 2025, some might be wondering if going green remains the financially ripe pick.
On the fence? Maybe some money back can help make up your mind. While government funding may have fizzled out, Southern California Edison rebates are still available.
Pre-owned electric vehicle rebate:
If you’re an SCE residential customer and you buy or lease a qualifying pre-owned EV, rebates are available:
- $1,000 back on your purchase or lease.
- Up to $4,000 back, if your household meets income-qualifying guidelines.
The savings don’t stop at the purchase price. EVs can cost less to run and maintain over time. When you combine lower ongoing ownership costs with an upfront rebate, a pre-owned EV can be of even stronger long-term value.
Many people who switch to electric say the convenience of charging at home is one of the biggest benefits — but older homes sometimes need electrical upgrades to support a Level 2 EV charger. Charge Ready Home can help.
- Receive up to $4,200 in rebates to cover electrical panel upgrades for income-qualified customers.
- SCE supports the installation of Level 2 EV charging infrastructure in apartments, workplaces and public locations.
- That means more charging options for renters, employees and visitors who may not have access to home charging but still want to drive electric.
- The Charge Ready Light Duty program will be accepting applications until June 30, 2026.
- If you operate a business, a delivery fleet or even a school bus route, SCE’s Charge Ready Transport program helps you build the infrastructure to electrify vehicles like vans, buses and trucks.
- The program offers support and access to power upgrades needed behind the scenes to make installing charging stations cheaper and easier.
- The Charge Ready Transport program will be accepting applications until June 30, 2026.
For entities looking to reduce the carbon emissions of their transportation fleets— lower fuel costs, fewer maintenance headaches and a greener footprint — these incentives can help offset upfront costs.
