October Brings Climate Credit Bill Relief

Southern California Edison customers will see an $86 Climate Credit on their electric bills.

As the temperatures drop this fall, your electric bill should too. Southern California Edison customers will get the second of two California Climate Credits on their October bill. The first credit was given in April. Each is $86, so this year customers will get a credit totaling $172.

The California Climate Credit is funded by the state’s Greenhouse Gas Cap-and-Trade Program, aiming to lower greenhouse gas emissions from power plants and other big industries. The program was created by the California Air Resources Board and the credit is managed by the California Public Utilities Commission. Since the program’s start, over $14 billion in credits have been given to California households and small businesses by SCE and other California investor-owned utilities.

SCE also offers more ways to save on bills:

  • Payment arrangements allow customers to pay past-due bills over time with smaller monthly payments. The charges are split into equal parts and added to monthly bills.
  • SCE’s Energy Assistance Fund can help qualified households with a one-time payment of up to $200 (or $300 for all-electric homes) on their SCE bill.
  • Arrearage Management Plan is a debt forgiveness option for those who are part of the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) or Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) programs and owe $500 or more, with some of it overdue for more than 90 days. If customers make 12 on-time monthly payments, debt could be forgiven, up to $8,000.
  • The Budget Assistant is an easy-to-use tool that sends alerts via email, phone or text when customers get close to their spending limit. It helps track your costs and avoid high-bill surprises.
