Electrical Safety Grabs Center Stage on Redesigned Kids’ Website
Southern California Edison’s newly redesigned kids’ website will engage kids, grades three through 10, on topics related to electricity. The website invites visitors to become “e-SMART” by learning about the science of electricity and how to stay safe around it.
Through activities, videos and games with names like “Voltinator” and “Breaker Breaker,” kids can learn important life-saving skills if they experience an electrical fire at home, a downed power line event in their community or a lightning storm while playing outside.
“We’re excited about the launch of our newly enhanced kids’ website. It has been revamped with a fun theme reminiscent of retro video games,” said Alfredo Coello, SCE kids’ website lead designer. “Our ‘Get Smart’ section will captivate younger kids. I’m hopeful that every child will learn as much as possible about staying safe around electricity with the help of our loveable safety squirrel.”
Students in middle and high school also can ask SCE’s newest addition “EDDI” a question. EDDI is a chatbot and is ready to provide answers about energy science. There are also various interactive activities that will teach children how to stay safe around electricity.
With many students participating in online learning at home this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this website offers parents and teachers fun and interactive learning material and activities for their kids and students.
“Students can ask our experts questions about molecules, hydroelectricity and how to prepare for an outage,” said Coello. “They can also learn about desert tortoises and what Southern California Edison workers are doing to help protect this threatened species.”
