Can Time-of-Use Rates Benefit Your Household?
When it comes to rates, Southern California Edison customers have options.
Most of SCE’s residential customers are enrolled in the standard domestic (or “tiered”) rate plan. Yet, other options called Time-of-Use (TOU) rate plans may be a better fit for customers.
A TOU rate plan looks not only at how much energy your household uses during the monthly billing cycle, but also what times of the day energy is used.
On a TOU rate, there are times when energy is less expensive for customers (“Off-Peak” or “Mid-Peak” hours), and times when it’s more expensive (“On-Peak” hours).
Generally, a household will benefit from a TOU rate plan if residents can shift some or most of their energy usage away from the 4-9 p.m. On-Peak hours and use more energy during other parts of the day.
