He sees linework as the perfect match to his passion for serving communities.
Why do you want to be a lineworker?
“A lineworker can change people’s lives. Becoming one can benefit my family, my community and the future of our country.”

“Safety awareness should be applied not only at work but in life in general. Your awareness should not only be for yourself but also for those around you.”

Bonifacio fell in love with electrical work in trade school and has worked in the solar industry, but now it is time to take things in a new direction. He has been preparing for the demands of linework, and he sees the trade as a way to build a stronger future for himself and his family.
Why do you want to be a lineworker?
“Becoming a lineworker represents a commitment to providing a future for my wife, daughter and mother. My determination comes from a genuine love for the trade and the desire to build a career I can be proud of.”

“Safety is not about convenience — it is about making sure every crew member returns home to their family. In a high-stakes environment where situational awareness is a matter of life and death, l am committed to maintaining strict safety protocols and encouraging my team to do the same.”

Francisco understands what it means to work in unpredictable conditions, and it doesn’t deter him. Coming from the film industry where he worked as a grip preparing high-lofted equipment at filming locations, he faced physically demanding tasks in tough weather. He looks forward to a career path that he can climb — literally — while building a strong future for his family.
Why do you want to be a lineworker?
“I want to continue in a career that requires focus while performing difficult tasks. Linework aligns with my background and offers a meaningful way to contribute to essential services in my community.”

“Safety depends on everyone being accountable and maintaining situational awareness. While working on remodeling an accessory dwelling unit at home, my personal protective equipment saved me on multiple occasions — reinforcing how crucial safety is in protecting me and my team.”

Jacob works best outdoors, and his experience in underground utility and electrical construction work has given him the skills to succeed. From changing the oil on his car for the first time to digging trenches, Jacob knows that working with his hands is what he enjoys most.
Why do you want to be a lineworker?
“Restoring power to homes, businesses and communities during outages is something I would take pride in. The physical work in difficult conditions doesn’t deter me; it motivates me to pursue a long-term career in the skilled trades.”
At SCE, safety isn’t just a priority — it’s a core value. What has your experience taught you about working safely?
“When I was 16 and changing the oil on my car for the first time, my personal protective equipment helped protect my eyes when the oil went everywhere after the drain plug opened. That experience taught me how quickly accidents can happen, even during routine tasks.”

As a former U.S. Army infantryman, Joaquin thrives in high-pressure situations. Recently completing his military service, he is ready to build from that foundation toward a career in linework.
Why do you want to be a lineworker?
“I developed discipline, work ethic and teamwork skills through my military experience. I have always been interested in hands-on careers that require responsibility and problem-solving. Linework stands out to me as an essential job that helps the community while offering opportunities for me to continue to learn and improve.”

“My time in the Army taught me that safety is not something you react to after a problem happens — it requires preparation, discipline and constant awareness. Looking out for those around me will help me become a dependable and safety-focused lineworker.”

Kenneth has spent the last two years as an apprentice electrician, practicing mixed martial arts in his spare time. He enjoys work that tests him both physically and mentally, and now he is ready to apply that experience to a career that demands more than practical skills alone.
Why do you want to be a lineworker?
“I can work with my hands to make a direct impact on people’s everyday lives. Knowing the demands of the trade doesn't discourage me because I enjoy environments where reliability and communication matter. I want to build a career where I can be someone others depend on.”

“My experience as an apprentice electrician has shown me how safety is an ongoing, daily process. Small mistakes can become serious quickly, so it's important that I stay aware of my surroundings, follow directions and never take shortcuts to save a few minutes.”

“I want to be part of a team committed to safety, innovation and the communities it serves. The responsibility of delivering reliable power to millions of people and responding during critical situations like outages or emergencies is what makes me want to be a lineworker.”
At SCE, safety isn’t just a priority — it’s a core value. What has your experience taught you about working safely?
“Working as a tower technician, I took a proactive approach to safety on every climb. On one project, I noticed a section of rigging that didn’t look properly secured. Instead of assuming it was fine, I stopped and brought it to my foreman’s attention. Speaking up prevented a potential hazard.”

Roxana doesn't shy away from helping where help is needed. From volunteering around her campus and community to preparing herself for the trade through certifications, being there for her neighbors is part of who she is.
Why do you want to be a lineworker?
“As an underrepresented, first-generation college student, I am inspired to achieve my goal of becoming a lineworker. Beyond building a career path, linework will help me break barriers and prove that people from underrepresented backgrounds can succeed in demanding professions.”

“Prioritizing safety in the workplace helps me prevent accidents and make sure that everyone can perform their duties with confidence. I have experienced coworkers not wearing the correct personal protective equipment and have immediately brought it to their attention for their safety.”

As a soccer coach and youth church leader, Samson knows the value of setting an example for others. He is looking to follow in his father’s footsteps working in the trades and showing his three sons the importance of education, discipline and perseverance.
Why do you want to be a lineworker?
“Growing up in a Samoan family, hard work, sacrifice and providing for others were always important values. As a husband and father of three sons, I am motivated to pursue a career as a lineworker to create greater financial stability for my family while setting an example for my children. Seeing my father’s skill and focus on safety in his work gave me a deep respect for trades and inspired my interest in linework.”
At SCE, safety isn’t just a priority — it’s a core value. What has your experience taught you about working safely?
“My past work experience has taught me the importance of maintaining strong safety habits and situational awareness in fast-paced environments with many potential dangers. My goal is to make sure everyone returns home safely to their loved ones at the end of each day.”

In partnership with IBEW Local 47, the Edison International Lineworker Scholarship helps develop the next generation of skilled trade workers, an exciting career path that embodies our values of safety, innovation and serving our communities.
The scholarship provides up to $25,000 per recipient and can be used to cover the cost of tuition, tools and support services needed to complete Los Angeles Trade-Technical College’s Powerline Worker: Pole Climbing Certificate program and obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license.
Once they finish their education, get their Class A license and fulfill pre-employment requirements, recipients are eligible for a full-time, entry-level skilled trade position at Southern California Edison.
