Edison International Lineworker Scholarship
As a member of Omega Psi Phi’s mentoring program, Jared has always been fascinated with how electricity is distributed to residential and commercial customers. As a Cal/OSHA-certified operator, he looks forward to bringing his safety background to the Edison Lineworker Scholarship program.
Omar is someone who has always enjoyed working outdoors and wants to have his hand in improving the quality of life for people who live in his community. He knows working as a lineman would let him be part of a team at the forefront of creating a green environment and clean energy future.
Djon has been a part of IBEW Local 11 as an electrician since 2017 and has dreamed of being a lineworker for over 15 years. Seeing the impact Hurricane Katrina and the Houston floods had on his family motivates him to learn how to “keep the lights on” and make an impact in his community.
Donald credits his mental resilience to being a great fit for Edison’s Lineworker Scholarship program. He knows the risks and importance of safety when working with electricity and looks forward to relying on the camaraderie of fellow lineworkers to ensure they all go home safely to their families at the end of each day.
As long as Daniel can remember, he has been fascinated with the way things work. Motivated by his family, he is committed to joining the Lineworker Scholarship program to learn everything about electricity and providing a solid foundation for the people he loves.
Keith has always been interested in a career where he can work with his hands. Watching his father fix things around their home, he never missed an opportunity to not only learn but also practice safety. He is excited to begin a career as a lineworker and share his knowledge with future generations.
Zuriel is looking for the next stage in his career to be challenging, provide upward mobility, a strong sense of teamwork and allow for personal growth. All these attributes are the reason he has chosen to take the next steps to be a part of SCE’s first lineworker scholarship cohort.
When a close friend who is a lineman at SCE told Anthony about the incredible scholarship opportunity, he knew he needed to apply. He knows being a lineman would provide an opportunity to provide financial security, contribute to a great company and keep communities safe. He hopes to set an example of hard work and perseverance for younger generations in his family.
Before attending SCE’s “Black Male Initiative — Career Pathways to Power,” Michael was planning to pursue a career as a registered nurse. After the event, he was fully inspired to become a lineman. Through hearing the accounts of current SCE linemen, he realized he can help people in a different way than he ever thought possible. Michael looks forward to completing the Lineworker Scholarship program and thriving in an environment that promotes safety and encourages long-term growth.
A Long Beach native, Ronald has dreams of inspiring youth in his neighborhood. By pursuing Edison’s Lineworker Scholarship, he is creating a new occupational journey for himself as a foundation for his success. He has dreams of one day creating his own scholarship program to help disadvantaged Black children in his community.
As a customer who has been directly impacted by PSPS, Vincent has become fascinated with seeing lineworkers install, maintain and repair high-powered electrical systems in his area. His goal is to give back to his community by sharing all of the different vocational career opportunities available in the utility space.
