Developing a Path to a Cleaner, Greener Future Leads to Rewards

Southern California Edison has a long history, more than 130 years, of innovation. So, it should be no surprise that SCE is working to create a cleaner energy future. A more sustainable future with cleaner, healthier air for all Californians.

Today, SCE was recognized for its clean energy vision and leadership when it was named Utility of the Year by Utility Dive, a leading industry news publisher.

“SCE is tracking ahead of its peers in taking a holistic approach to deep decarbonization of the power and transportation sectors. It's well on its way to meeting California's steep renewables standard a decade before its deadline and just rolled out a comprehensive climate plan,” said Krysti Shallenberger, editor for Utility Dive. “Any one of these accomplishments are notable, but taken together, they make SCE stand out.”

The 2017 Dive Awards recognize the industry’s top disruptors and innovators. Utility Dive asked its more than 50,000 readers to submit nominations. The editors chose the winners based on the impact they have made in transforming and shaping the future of the energy industry.

In addition to being named Utility of the Year by Utility Dive, earlier this year SCE was named the No. 1 solar utility in the U.S. The company delivered more solar energy to its customers last year than any other utility in the nation, according to rankings compiled by the Smart Electric Power Alliance

The company has also won multiple awards for its two Hybrid Enhanced Gas Turbines. The hybrid system, a 10-megawatt battery storage system combined with an enhanced gas turbine, cuts greenhouse gas and particulate emissions up to 60 percent. It also saves about 2 million gallons of demineralized water annually.
